So, this Saturday kicked off just like any other, which, if you know my family, spells trouble.

Mom dropped a bomb right before noon: Spring Cleaning Day. We all acted like it was the biggest bash of the year. Yeah, right. I’d rather be squirted in the face with a water gun.

I made a beeline for the garage, ducking behind boxes like a secret agent on a stealth mission.

I pulled out my blogging gear and got to typing. To anyone passing by, it looked like I was fiddling with an old bike chain, but really, I was hammering out a new blog post.

Just as I was wishing for a magic button on my phone to handle all the cleaning, the garage door groaned open, and in lumbered Matt—decked out head to toe as an elephant. 🐘

Yep, you heard right. Classic Matt. FYI, my twin’s gunning to be a detective and has a wardrobe brimming with bizarre get-ups, the elephant suit being the most outrageous.

Today he opted for the elephant gear, claiming it boosted his stealth skills.

As if! If this was peak sneakiness, ninjas would be out of a job. 

I’m on a mission! It’s super important!

He always has some “big mission” that typically ends with both of us in hot water.

He resembled a lost mascot who couldn’t tell up from down.

Clumsily, he navigated the garage mess, his trunk sending everything flying. Less than five minutes in, and he’d smashed two flower pots, a lamp, and a heap of forgotten junk.

“Oops,” Matt muttered, attempting to tidy up but only causing more chaos by knocking over a box of Christmas ornaments. 🎄

“I’ve found something epic!” Matt exclaimed. “There’s a secret tunnel under the garage!”

Sure, and I’m the Queen of England. 👑

Matt’s “findings” usually stop at loose floorboards or yard-invading raccoons.

“Time to investigate! Get your detective gear!” he said, thrusting a toy magnifying glass and a battered hat at me.

I knew I shouldn’t have asked, but my curiosity won over. 🤔

“A mission that needs an elephant suit?” I quizzed, as Matt shuffled closer, his trunk barely allowing it. 🐘

“I’m hearing weird noises from the garage! Must be a secret passage!” he bellowed. Before I could object, he was bulldozing through, his giant trunk toppling tools and pails.

“Matt, it’s probably just local raccoons!” I tried explaining, but he was adamant there was a hidden tunnel. Nothing could deter him.

Before I could declare him officially insane, he was messing with a suspicious brick, which he managed to wedge open. Shockingly, the wall swung open, unveiling a dark, spider-webby, narrow corridor. 🕷️

“Told ya!” Matt trumpeted, quite impressively for someone in an elephant outfit. 🎺

“Feels like we’re in a cheesy Indiana Jones flick,” I muttered as Matt, undaunted by the clear danger, dove into the shadows. I sighed, hesitatingly following because leaving Matt alone in a dark tunnel seemed like a really bad idea.

“Hope we don’t bump into zombies!” I mused to myself as I stepped into the secret passageway. 🧟‍♀️
